Although it was once a tiny fishing village, Louis XVI of France built a defensive fort in the hills outside Marigot and converted it into St. Martin’s capital. Named Fort Louis, it has been partially restored and is open to visitors. It’s a short hike to the top of a hill to see it, but the view of Marigot and the nearby island of Anguilla from the top is worth the effort.

Orient Bay is a picturesque coastal town on the French side of the island of St. Martin. It is home to one of the island’s most popular beaches, as well as a number of luxury rental properties, beach bars, and restaurants.
Happy Bay is a little-known beach on the northwest side of the island of St. Martin. Located in the French half of the island, the beach isn’t as easy to access as some others, but it’s more than worth the effort.
